  • Insider info on CSC plastic cards

I actually got through to a CSC phone operator a few days ago. She told me that, due to a computer problem, people at CSC can't change the address that the plastic green card goes to, after it's approved. It's also very likely that the card will go to the wrong address if residence is changed during the I-485 process.

The only way to get your green card if you move after approval is 1) hope the mailman forwards it to you, or 2) wait for the card to go back to INS, then hope that they forward it to you from the mailroom.

I've seen forwarded items that had sat in the CSC mailroom for EIGHT MONTHS.

It's easy to give a change of address. Mail it to the address at the bottom of your I-485 receipt or approval. Mark the outside of the envelope "Change of Address."

    I think that's baloney.
"Computer problems" is the standard excuse when somebody screwed up. They figure, nobody would know about this stuff.
Never believe anything an IIO tells you.

      I know...

I know...I've heard a lot of phoney excuses, too. It all comes down to one thing...incompetence. But I do tend to believe that INS computer systems are so shoddy and ramshackle and out-dated that a simple change of address might be over their heads.

I keep hoping that this September 11th and terrorist visa scandal will bring about a revolution in the INS, but I doubt it will. Most likely, it will only add more burdensome beaurocracy.

        Re: I know...

        Hi there...

I agree with JoeF. I think the processing at CSC is very random in nature. I have been following the discussion threads in this site, and really believed them when my wife and I were told, during stamping 551, that we should expect the plastic cards in 6-12 months. The cards reached us in 19 days!

Can't believe they can't afford new computers with all the money they get from our applications fees. They can probably afford state-of-the-art equipment with all the wireless controls and send you updates through text messaging on your cell phone.
