Hi All,
i know there are a lot of questions on maintaining green card from abroad, and in sum I get that you have to return to US before 6months every year, ideally live in US 6months every year.
Here is my situation, just need quick advice: family green card
- I am on AOS since I am 21, and now im 26. Green card is sponsored through my father to me, my brother and mother. Smallest brother has been born in the US so thats good. I got social security, Employment Authorization, drivers license. Address also US, bank accounts same. Never filed taxes in US though, as never worked there but my company is now a multinational from US.
- Have been in the US mostly 1-2 months since green card was filed. Never been around more than 1 year though.
- About to receive green card it seems this year (2013) or next year January (2014). No specific time, but surely in 2014.
here is the issue:
Up until now, AOS has been perfect. I could work around the world, and just come for a short visit to family.
Next year, I may be working abroad from January 1 for a year until january 2015..
But if really needed I can do that rotation in the US from january, however plan to work in Asia after...
Longer term I would most likely be in the US, but the issue is after I receive the card due to work I can't imagine myself not fying in and out of US even living in Asia/owning house etc..
Question:
Should I use next year to work abroad until 2015, just when I receive the green card, and then from 2015 work in the US? Feel like its kind of the last year before I 'really' get perm residency status.
Or must I work in the US at the time I receive the green card? Would it be highly advisable to be living/working in US when I get it?
Thanks a lot,
(question may be ambiguous, hopefully someone gets the point)
