I need some advice:
My Green Card will expire in January 2014. For personal reasons, I've been out of the U.S. since June this year, and I'm not sure whether I will be able to return to live in the U.S. before the card expires. Will it be a problem to return to the U.S. after the card expires, as long as I have not stayed outside for more than a year, and then apply for the I-90 as soon as I'm back in the U.S?
If this is not possible, can I go to the U.S. for say a few days right before the card expires, just to apply for the renewal, and then leave again? If so, what will I need to do to make sure I get back in? And how long will it usually take before I get my biometric appointment? (are we talking one week, one month, or longer??)
My situation is far from ideal, and hopefully I can return to the U.S. before the card expires, and in that way not have to deal with any of this, but I need to make sure I understand exactly how this all works, so I do not loose my resident ship!!
Thanks!
