  • Specific questions divorce and green card

    Hello guys,

Hello from a newbie who has read a lot about the situation at hand but with specific questions.
    Situation:
Married for 3 years and 4 months, married in USA.
Lived in The Netherlands for the first 2 years.
Live now with my wife for 1 year and 2 months in USA. Got a 2 year green card (cr1), valid till August 2014.
We are pursuing a divorce, things are not working out. Marriage is def in good faith.
She and her family sponsored me.
I enjoy living here and want to stay. When we are divorced I will have to file for the I-751 with status divorced and give proof that we weren't married for a visa.
I feel like spending some time with my family in my home country. I do not have an American address anymore because my then ex wife will live in the house. I do want to come back and start living here by myself.
Do I have to file the I-751 as soon as we are divorced?
Do the authorities need an American address for correspondence?
When are the legalities of sponsorship over? When are my wife and family not responsible anymore for my actions? When we are divorced, when I get my ten year green card or never?!
Do I have a shot at obtaining a green card?
Even when divorced, can I stay in USA living and working until the end of my green card, August 2014?

You must be in the US to file.
the sponsorship ends? when you die, leave the US permanently, become a US citizen or have 40 credits for social security (10 yea ars of working).
the basics, a is green card is a RESIDENT alien card, meaning you must live primarily in the US.
CR stands for CONDITIONAL RESIDENT, conditional on your marriage to the US citizen, yes you can apply or self petition yourself after a divorce but not from outside the US.
If you have been outside the US more than 1 year your green card is considered abandoned. more than 6 months and they will question you why so long and possibly deny you entry into US. Or to many times out of the US they can deny entry again RESIDENT alien card. not a come and go as you please card
