    Hi,
I just got my greencard (not yet the plastic card) and POE is SF at Dec. 17. The next day I went to social security adminstration to change my SSN status.
The staff in SSA pull out my info. by using the aliean number, but he found out that the name in the computer is different from my passport (my name is like this in passport: aaa bbb ccc, and ccc is mising from computer). Because this reason, he refused my request and told me to go to local INS to correct the name in computer first.
Does anyone has this situation? and is it easy to correct name ?
    Thanks.
    David

    Heres what you do. Nothing.

Wait until you get your plastic card. Make sure it is correct. If it @#%$'t you will need to get a new one (File I-90).

When you get a correct card take it down to the Social Security office and and file a new form with them to change your details so that they match the plastic card (name etc - the number will stay the same).

I tried to get a new card without the restrictions after I got back from CP and they couldn't do it as the INS had not entered my information into the computer system yet. When I got the card I went back and everything was fine. They accepted the form and said the card would be there in 10 working days.

The INS automatically updates your Social Security record when they enter your details (using the SSN you supplied on the immigrant visa application). Until you get the card they wont have done it - so you may as well not bother going to Social Security until you get it.
