  • I551 stamped at POE...a few questions

I had a successful CP & entered the US at Boston on 11/18/01. My passport was stamped with I 551 valid for 1 year & I was told that my plastic card will arrive in 2-6 months. I have a few questions:

    - Is it safe to quit or get laid off before plastic card arrives? Does the processing time of the plastic card have any affect on one's employment?

    - In case my plastic cards do not arrive within 1 years, I need to file I 90 for I 551 renewal with local INS office, right? just confirming.

    - I was given the AR-11 form & was told to file that if I changed my address before arrival of my plastic card. Has anyone done this? What have your experiences been?

A1: Your status has changed to PR when you went through POE. Arrival of plastic does not change your status.
    read in: i m m i n f o . com/*******FTP/*******Analysis2_1.pdf (remove spaces)

A2: It depends: if they claim they sent it (and you never received) then I90, otherwise it can be I89.

A3: AR11 whenever you change address, also after plastic is received. It seems that they mostly ignore this, so you better call service center and put forwarding address in local USPS.

        Thanks AbuLafya

I wish to thank you as well AbuLafya for your participation and helpful information.
Your posting about your CP in Tel-Aviv was the only reference I found on the net to how this process is being conducted in the embassy in Tel-Aviv. It made me feel better and optimistic about the whole process.

          Re: Thanks AbuLafya

Your welcome. I never saw a post from you before. Please update ********* site too with your case info.
I was unable to find anyone that did it before me, but knew few that did it in parallel. Did you have to wait a week for the passports too?

            CP In Tel Aviv

I had to wait for a week before getting the passports. All in all it wasn't a bad experience. They were nice at the embassy. I was asked a few innocent questions (most of all about my recently American born baby).

I think the worst part was the visit to the doctor in Hertzeliya. He's really really really not nice!

              Re: CP In Tel Aviv

Stroke of luck for us. We were suppose to go to that doctor (as per consulate) but could not schedule an appointment with enough time for the results to be available to the consulate. The consulate agreed that we will go to the Tel-Aviv doctor.
I wonder how much of the cash they get is declared as revenue...
