Dear All,
I would like to apply for a re-entry permit as I have to complete my master degree in the country I currently reside. I won the green card via the lottery but I need 1.5 additional years to complete my studies. I would enter USA and receive a temporary I-551 stamp.
My questions are as follows:
1) Should I receive the plastic green card personally - signed registered mail, or can a relative or friend living at the same address in USA receive it for me?
2) Should I have the plastic green card in hand before applying for the re-entry permit, or can I apply for the re-entry permit with the temporary I-551 stamp? I assume that the I-551 stamp is legally the same as the plastic green card and I should be permited.
3) How long does it take to receive my plastic green card after I entered the USA? I will pay the $165 online prior to entering the USA.
4) How can I keep a permanent address in USA during my absence, noting that I will use the address of a close family friend. Are there any forms to fill or other procedures to maintain a permanent address in the USA?
