This may not be the right forum for it, but I have a question on the 'conditional green card' (the 2-year validity one):
A friend of mine has a conditional greencard by virtue of marriage to a US citizen... the card expires next month (the end of its 2-year validity), and she has already filed the I-751 application for removal of the conditions on her greencard (so she has not defaulted or gone into illegal status).
Question is, while her I-751 application is pending, can she travel overseas? If so what does she need (by way of documents) to ensure a trouble-free re-entry to the US, since the re-entry will be after the expiration of the conditional GC?
I remember reading somewhere that filing the I-751 application within the prescribed time-window automatically extends the greencard by 6 months (the normal timeframe for the INS to reach a decision on the I-751), which enables safe international travel during that period. I wanted to see if anyone knows this for a fact, or has gone through a similar situation.
Any help greatly appreciated... thanks!
