  • Entered thru SF. How to report change of address?

    Hi,

I entered thru SF in the last week of March. My immigrant visa had my company's address so the immigrant officer said the plastic card is going to be sent to my company's address. Is there a way to report change of address?

At the point of entry, immigration officer gave me photocopy of a form that can be used (a) inquire about plastic card status (b) provide change of address. The name of the form is Inquiry about status of I-551.

The form does not have any form number or phone number but the address mentioned is

    Immigration and Naturalization Service
    Texas Service Center
    P.O. Box 851488
    Mesquite, Texas 75185-1488

I noticed in an other posting that the form number is G-731

Well, the immigration officer didn't give me the form you are talking about. So, the plastic cards are handled by TSC not CSC if you enter thru SF?

      Thanks

        change of address

I think people who had CP in New Delhi are disadvantaged. IV address said my name c/o employer
whereas my wife IV had her name c/o my name my home addr. I checked with a friend of mine who had CP in Mumbai. His, his wife's and child's IV all had their home addr. I entered at LAX, and the immigration officer didn't ask for address- whereas some were asked to check the addr.

I called the customer service of INS 800 375-5283. The
lady asked me when I entered, what city etc. etc. and told that my case will be handled by California service center and gave me the phone number 949 831-8427. I live closeby, but I can tell that I can NEVER get to that number. Always busy. I have personally been there thrice for my wife's I-485 but each time they gave some funny story..

I talked to my company lawyer. He said you can download form G-731, fill it and mail it to California service center. Now G-731 says you should wait for 60 days after entry to USA. Anyway I am going to send it to them knowing full well that it may have a less than 5% chance of getting their attention.

I think I am stuck for 6 months. Waste of $4000.00
Question- is it risky to change employer till I get the plastic. Web administrator says- stay for 6 months to one year.
