  • Green Card and SSN

I am on H1B visa and I already have my SSN.

I understand that SSN reflects your status in the country of being US citizen or a Resident Alien.

Should the SSN change once we get the Green Card or it doesn't make any difference?

I guess your SS Card has the words "Valid for work with INS authorization". When you get the GC, you should get a new SS Card with this sentence removed. The number stays the same.

      re

I went to SS office, and filled out the form. One week later my new SS card came to me without "Valid for work with INS authorization". Although, my number stays the same. Hope this helps.
