I am happily married to a US citizen (13 years) and have been a Green Card holder for 10 years (actually in the process of renewing for the first time -- went through the finger printing process just this week). Despite living in the US for 15 years (I originally came to the US on a TN and H1-B visa), I have maintained my Canadian citizenship.
Unexpectedly, I received an opportunity to potentially move to the Cayman Islands for a very lucrative position. In my line of work, it is not uncommon to only stay in your position for 3 - 5 years. After this role, my best opportunities will be in the US or UK and our strong preference would likely to be to come back to the US.
How difficult would it be to regain/retain my Green card if we decided to move back to the US in the next five years if we pursued this opportunity abroad? Would I have to start the process all over as a TN or H1-B worker and then go through the Green Card process again? Are there other options? All input is appreciated, especially from qualified legal professionals familiar with this situation or others who have gone through the process themselves.
Best regards and thank you in advance for your responses.
