Should I abondon greencard or apply for re-entry permit

I have been in USA for more than 10 years and have green card for last 3 years and now want to move to India for good. I do not intend to come back but there could be that exceptional situation when I need to come back. So I want to know whether I should abandon green card or apply for re-permit. What are the pro and cons? I heard from my friends that keeping green card will complicate tax filing while in India - It would be good to hear from you if that is really the case.

Also in case of applying for re-permit - Do I need to apply separately for me and my wife, Or it should be only be me who would need to apply? My wife has a H4 earlier and got green card as I got the green card.

I would really appreciate any pointers in this regard.
