Hello,
Please, if it possible to get some advice on the following situation: I am US citizen and got Green Card for my father in January 2011. My father stayed here a lot, at our house. In the mean time, recently, some family health problems appeared and he had to go back to take care of his mother. In October 2014, he returned to the US after 11 months of not being here and stayed only 2 weeks and he went back overseas because his mother (my grandmother) was in bed and 92 years old. We couldn't find people to help there for more than temporary, so he needed to be there helping. Also, he had a complicated surgery this March 2015, was hospitalized and his mother died in April 2015. I also went there this months, April 2015 and just returned back to the US. My father has his Driver's License renewed and valid, a bank card - ATM from here, his SSN and Green Card and can return here next month, in May 2015. This will be 7 months since he left last time, in October 2014. He can have a letter from me in English explaining what happened and the death certificate and the proof from the hospital with the date he left the hospital. My father doesn't speak English fluently in case a long conversation is going to happen at the border. I called USCIS back in October 2014 while he was here, but they said even if i send a letter of explanation at that time, it will do nothing for his file. To apply for the re-entry permit that is valid 2 years, we didn't have time, because he could stay only 2 weeks and it was talking 2 months to get an answer regarding the permit. Is there anything I can do to make sure he is allowed to re-enter in the US in this May 2015? Should I go pick him up and both of us return on the same flight so I can talk for him if questions are asked? Is this needed? I am not sure where to address to find the best way to handle the case and maybe possibly to check if his Green Card is still valid and he can travel with it. Maybe he can just arrive and the Customs will let him in the US? I am not sure. Please advice.
Thank you very much,
Dana
