Well it's been 5 months and no plastic card. Recently I was overseas and while coming back the lady at the counter asked to see my card. I showed her my i-1551 stamp and she insisted on my card. After a long explanation (she almost didn't let me board!!!!) she let me go. My question is how can I find out about the status of my plastic card (i.e. a phone # I can call??) I am almost afraid to travel next time without my card. Any thoughts?

where did this happen?
at which airport was this "lady at the counter"?
I very much doubt that this would be at the Port of Entry in US.
If it was at a non-US airport (point of origination or transit), I would always revert back to the airline people as they are more well-versed with the immigration formalities (especially for US).
The reason being that
1. it becomes their headache if the country you land in does not allow you to enter. So they know the rules, etc.
2. it is in their best interest to have people flow thru the airport procedures for a on-time departure.

Re: where did this happen?
Hi thanks for your reply, actually this was in Panama City, Panama. This person was in fact the person checking in passengers for IBERIA Airlines. I was surprised that she did not know that the stamp on my passport is MY proof of US PR. Believe me, I was very surprised about this myself. After I came to Miami, I asked the INS officer, and he told me that the stamp is as good as the plastic card. I just wonder if the Airlines staff know the rules or not. It is ludicrous that a person such as an Airlines official (With very limited knowledge)is given the task of checking credentials as such.
