conditional permanent resident ?

I had successful CP and POE was Atlanta. I got I551 stamp on my passport valid for 2 years.(I guess Atlanta officials are more generous)

I also received a circular at the POE, which states 'Welcome to US ..' and next paragraph mentions about SS card and to apply for it.

The last paragraph which is as below
"Conditional permanent residents need to file a joint petition with their spouse to remove the conditional status in the 90 day period immediately preceeding the two years from today(begining 21 months from today);"


Is the last paragraph the same as removing the conditional work clause from our SS card (valid to work only with INS authorization). Can someone confirm this?

I went to SS office yesterday. Though I had come a week back, my data was not in the system in SS office. But the lady was polite and wrote down the a# and other information on the form itself.

This clause has nothing to do with you. It only applies to people who got the GC through marriage. In that case, the GC is conditional for a couple of years, to discourage fraudulent marriages. So if there is a divorce in the first years, the GC becomes invalid.

The SS Card is a completely different matter. I am surprised that they gave you problems.
I went to the SS office the day after my entry, they copied the passport page with the stamp, and I got a new card without the work restrictions 10 days later.

Infact they did not give me much problem as the IRS oficer who wanted to see my air tickets to issue me Sailing permit.

But I have heard that you will have to wait for 45-60 days before enquiring with TSC for status of your plastic card, as it will not be in their system before that.
