Sorry in advance for the long and detailed questions.
here's our situation:
I'm an US citizen and my wife (a Chinese national) and I live in China. My wife recently got her US immigrant visa, but due to my work situation, we need to stay in China for the foreseeable future (could be 1 year, or could be much longer!).
We would be traveling back to the US at most once every year, but want to avoid any risk of her losing her LPR status. I understand that for her to keep her GC, we need to apply for a re-entry permit when we are back in the states next time. No Problem. We were planning a family visit on the west coast soon. She would cross the border and get her immigrant visa stamped at at time.
We plan to send in our docs for the re-entry permit in the beginning of this trip, hopefully expediting it so that we can get fingerprinted fast and leave for China afterwards. Here are my questions:
1) is this plan doable? we were thinking of a two week trip...is this timeline too tight?
2) what are the requirements for expediting the process? Some people seem to think it's tough to expedite the process, while others think it's fairly easy. What can we do to improve our chance of getting expedited treatment?
3) We plan to use an address of a west coast family member for the I-131 form. This address is different than the address on file for my wife when she applied for the immigrant visa. is this doable? will this slow down the process and raise unnecessary red flags? Her address on file with immigration is an east coast address (my parent's address). We want to use this west coast address since we will not be making a stop on the east coast...therefore, we don't need to make another trip across country to get fingerprinted!
4) In the event that we do not get expedited treatment, can we walk in to do a fingerprint? what is needed for this walk-in treatment?
Thank you for your help! I very much appreciate it.
