  • working for the prospective employer after getting GC

    Hai,
I got my green card thru prospective employment (I haven't worked for the employer at all so far). Now I have better job offer. do I have to still go and work for the employer who sponsored me? I have green card with no conditions in it. does anyone know answer to this?

Yes, you still have to work for that sponsoring employer. Otherwise, you will be committing crime and if caught, your green care may be revoked and you will be deported. Also, you will not be able to get citizenship because they ask all those questions at the time of interview.

employment based green card period of employment

Can you please tell me how long we have to work for an employer who sponsors the Green Card? Is six months enough? The visa and employment agreement with my employer clearly states that I can leave the employment at any time provided I pay a pro-rated cost of expenses including legal to my employer.

If I work with them for six months, and decide to leave, should I approach them through a lawyer?

      thanx

        Andre,

look, they poneyed up and sponsored you here with the intent that you would work for them. I doubt their intent was for you to use them for 6 months and kick them to the curb!! After all I don't think the visa was free for them. Now be a man and live up to your contract. ( It would be hard for me to hire an H1B when I get start up my consulting firm in the U.S . Thanks to you)
I had a TN Visa for 6 years and the travelling back and forth 10 hours one way was a killler. I had to take all my dependants along with me. Due to 9/11.. my TN was denied.. I have been in my home country for 5 years waiting on a family based visa !!! 5 bedroom house is gone.. pool gone...1/2 acre gone and job gone...I tried to get a sponsor after 9/11 no go !!
What a killer ! I would have given anything to get an employment based visa!!!
While back in my home country just next door tho the U.S. all the good jobs that I looked at had " Green Card resident only !! Not willing to sponsor ...." Why do you suppose that is ? Cause of people like you who mess the system up...! So just honor your contract and keep the doors open for the many who folllow. One day you might find yourself behind the same door begging to get in.

          Employer

          Hi Sunshine Girl,
Yes, I would certainly work for the employer who sponsored me, provided they stick to their end of the contract. They said they would re-imburse me my airfare, NCLEX fee, and accomodation till I passed the NCLEX, and pay me 35USD per hour, but now that I've passed the NCLEX exam, they are finding all sorts of excuses not to honour their commitments. They are ready to pay me only 28 Dollars an hour, they will refund only part of my airfare and accomodation. How do you like that?
