Hello,
Here is a little background info. I had an incorrect name when I first entered this country on my travel documents, so therefore all my legal documents (SS, driver's license, credit cards) had incorrect info on them. When I interviewed for my Green Card, the immigration officer offered me to correct it. So right now my name is correct on my Green Card and my passport, and I was able to receive a corrected SS card. Not so easy with the driver's license - when I tried to renew my driver's license, they couldnot proceed with the process because the USCIS verification system still has my old incorrect info in it!
I have been on the phone back and forth with the USCIS, Dept. of HS, our State DMV, and nothing. Now they are saying I need to make an appointment at the local USCIS office to resolve this issue. My closest local office is 6-7 hours away from me. So I need to make an appointment and drive to Denver just to ask them if they could do this for me. At this point I'm not even sure if they wouldn't send me back telling me if either a) I have to wait weeks/months for the system to update or b) I have to go and fill out a form and make another appointment.
My question at this point is, is it something that I could hire an attorney for? And they could go see the USCIS for this? Or is it something that I have to appear in person?
I'm stuck in the bureaucratic hell, please help!
Thanks!
