  • Can I study PhD in UK and still maintain USA Green Card?

Hi, I recently got my Green card and need to move to USA as a resident. However, I also just got an offer to do a PhD at a British university. This means I need to be in UK for 11 months of the year. I know I need to reside in USA for over 6 months per year to maintain my Green card, but are there exceptions if one is studying PhD in another country? The PhD lasts 3 years. I think I only get 2 or 3 weeks vacation per year.

    Thank you

You can file for a Re-Entry Permit that allows you to be out of the US for 2 years. You must maintain ties to the US.
