  • Renewal of Green Card

    Hello everyone

So I have been a green card holder which expires is March 2019

    Now my main question is

I have been coming into the states for 7-10 max every 11 months for the last 8 out 10 years. I have had a few issues at the border. But always entered.

Now I`m thinking of moving back to the USA.

I was wondering when can i apply for a renewal ? Will my application be rejected as I am not living in the country for months at a time? And can i apply for the renew my green card from outside of the USA?

Thank you every one in advance.

    Thank you

Here is the link to how to renew a green card. https://www.uscis.govhttps://www.imm...new-green-card
    It's all there.

It's a toss-up. It will be a challenge to prove that the 7 - 10 days you spend in the US every 11 months are evidence of living in the US and maintaining ties. At this point, you don't qualify for citizenship. I don't have much for you.

    All the best.

      Green card renewal experience

      Hi -

Just sharing my experience. Indian citizen, GC (EB1) holder since Sep 2008 (so the card would be expiring Sep 2018).

      Filed I-90 application online: Apr 2, 2018

Received biometrics appointment notice: Apr 7

Biometrics: Apr 24 (they also put a sticker on my GC extending it through Apr 2019)

Notice of new GC production: May 1

New GC delivered in mail: May 7

Total time: 1 month and 5 days

I read a lot of complaints on the internet about long processing times (9 months - 1 yr), but hopefully they have sorted out the issues and are processing fast now.

      My advice:

      - Don't wait till last minute with excuse of "being busy". File I-90 immediately when your GC becomes eligible for renewal (6 months before its expiry date). E.g., if your card expires on Nov 1, you are eligible to apply for renewal starting May 1.

      - Create a USCIS account and file I-90 online. It takes you through every step including uploading supporting documents. You can save your draft application for up to 30 days and come back to finish it anytime during that period.

      - Provide the requested information/documentation properly when filing online. This makes things easy for the officer reviewing your application. I have always had smooth experience with USCIS/INS in every step from student days (F-1 visa, EAD, H1B, GC, I-90).

      All the best.

What was your stay in US between 2008 and 2018? Does long stay outside the states, even with valid re-entry permits affect your chance of smooth renewal of GC?

        Please advise!
