  • Green-card holder returning to US and applying for re-entry permit

    Dear all,
I would like to ask any of your experiences to know if my current position/status could get a re-entry permit. A bit about my background: all my family members (parents and siblings) are residing in the US. I am a green card holder since Sep 2015. Since then, my total time of being outside US is about 14 months including almost 10 months I have just been away from the US, I was travelling most of the time in my home country Vietnam during that 10 months. Now I need to go back to Vietnam to take care of my grandpa to see if he is OK and also take care of our family issues in Vietnam for a few months but I am not sure how long before I go back home to the US.
I am intending to apply for a reentry permit but I wonder if it will be likely to be granted or not. The total cost is $575 + $85, is it non refundable if not approved?

I don't see why not. Reentry permits are not hard to get.
Just keep in mind that frequent long trips can be deemed as having violated the terms of your permanent resident status. Try to make your trip as brief as you can.

You should assume every fee you pay to the USCIS to be non-refundable.
