So you got your entry visa with GC approval and with big seal package from consulate you have entered U.S. is it correct?

First of all you don't required to open anything and obtain anything, but there is a few necessities without them yo cannot normally function in US.

SS card, DL, Bank account - are the most important.

From my experience everything starts with visit to Social Security service. Even if you don't have your Green Card on your hand yet, you can go and file for SS card.
You can file for some SS programs just to get an extra letter from them to prove your address ask about that SS worker.

Next step would be DL as it is a primer form of identification in US even if you don't have a car.
There are two ways to get your US DL (at list in state where i was) - one is to go through driving school and then pass driving test with theory test or you can submit any other country DL and just go through tests, check with your local DMV office for requirements (i chose to submit my not US DL and just pass tests).

BTW if you don't have your GC on your hand yet, the stamp in your passport to enter US works as GC.
To get US DL you would need also prove of address, welcome letters from USCIS and letters from SS would be just fine.
DL expiration date will be limited with your passport stamp date or your green card expiration date. Save your self a 10$ and apply with Green Card if you can wait. I couldn't wait, i needed to drive and be added to car insurance. So i applied with my passport stamp and letter needed to renew with my GC.

Next step for me was a bank account, just open simple checking account, you actually can start from this to obtain proof of address from bank. If they deny you, ask for a letter with denil sent to your address - it would be a prove of your address for DL.

Tax return - it depends on your income, if you don't have any or it below poverty line - you don't need to file with IRS. You can call them or visit in local office to confirm.

Also start your credit history as soon as possible. If you can take any loan or open Credit Card, get a phone contract. In my case only Sprint agree to give me a phone without Credit history and Wells Fargo opened a $200 limit credit card with $200 deposit but it's a start.

      Good Luck!
