  • Leaving less than 3 months after GC to go to school?

    Guys,

If after receiving the GC, I plan on leaving, either to school or another employer, would this impact my chance of naturalization later? I heard that if the job is in the same field, it might cause a problem. How about if I want to go to school or start my own company, doing something completely different?

Would this raise eyebrows from USCIS?

I dont see why one has anything to do with the other. With a GC you are a permanent resident, you should read the rights as a permanent resident

It has nothing to do with your future N-400. You can read that form and see they don't ask about that in the form.

But, you might have signed some agreement with your company, that you cannot work in the same field or for competitor for certain time period after you leave your current job. That is strictly between you and your company.
You can ask you HR if there any confidentiality or other agreements with your company you have signed when you was hired. Yehh when you get hired you signed tons of documents with fine print
Some company made their employer resign those paper every few years.

Have heard many stories about person got employment based GC and next day quit for better job.

Just been talking to my friend who has a work based GC.
And i want to correct myself. Apparently you have to stay for 3 month as minimum or better 6 month with your employer after you got you work based GC or it might affect decision on your N-400 approval. My friend's employer told him that, but he didn't believe him and later found more information from other forums for work based GC applicants.
Looks like people who had their GC and next day quit wasn't much care about getting US citizenship, you know those guys from EU.
