GC but no Passport!

I will be traveling to Germany this august. I have a permanent resident card, and it's conditional status is due to be removed in July. So I am not worried about that, but I don't have a passport! I am an iranian citizen, but fled the country and was a german resident for over 12 years. Therefor, I don't have an iranian passport (and I don't think I could get one ) and my german RESIDENT passport expired back in 2002.
What should I get to travel? Apply for an iranian passport, or a white passport from US (travel document)?

I am sooo confused...

My residency here was achieved through marriage to a US citizen, not refugee.

white passport is green(actually), it's called a travel document, form I-131
BUT
You need a real passport, you can;t travel without one, you should apply for one in the US, find an Iranian embassy and make passport, that's all!

But the thing is I can't get an Iranian passport because we fled the country. I don't think I can go back and say "hey, I changed my mind about this country please give me a passport "
