Green Card holder - study outside US. How can I still apply for naturalization

I got my permanent residency in March 2007 (based on marriage to US citizen). This fall my husband began his studies at a college abroad. I'd like to join him next year (September, 2008) as a full time student.

How will this affect my ability to apply for naturalization? I plan on returning in the US every six months. Will I still be able to apply for naturalization 2 years 9 months after gaining permanent resident status? I'm very confused so I would greatly appreciate your help.
