  • About Green Card.

Hello, My name is Luis Gomez, I obtained my Green Card from my wife who is a US Citizen last year. We have been having some problems lately, up to the point in which we thought about getting divorced. The day that we finally sat down and talked about it, she said that I could not divorce her because she could revoke my Green Card if she wanted too even after the first two years have passed. Is there anyone who could give me some information about this matter, is it possible for her to do this?. I'd really appreciate any information. Thank you.

    Luis Gomez.

        It should be ok

I filed for Divorce after receiving my green card for 10 years(rec'd on April). I have been able to travel with no problems. I also had to file for divorce due to bad problems with my husband. It sucks..but you can't base your life on a bad marriage because of immigration laws.

        Good Luck!

It is a different situation when you have a conditional green card (only valid for 2 years). You must file a form jointly with your wife and submit evidence of the marriage, so you can remove those conditions. That is done to prevent immigration fraud through marriage (someone marries just for the GC, gets it, then divorces right away).
