Normally GC holder cannot be out of USA for more than a year and two years in case of a re-entry permit. However I understand that there are some exception when a person is transferred by the employer out of USA for longer periods, is this true? if so then what are these exceptions? and where can i get information on these?

Traveling outside the US between 6 and 14 months
Hi,
I need to travel to the UK for approx. 6-14 months in order to look after my Mother who is very unwell. I will continue to work for my company in the UK (currently working for them in the US).
How would this impact my US Greencard, which I received in Nov’04, and potential Naturalization process for applying for a US Passport? I am currently approx 18 months away from the 5 years period.
To confirm the longest period I have stayed in the US consecutively since I received my Greencard has been about 11 months.
Appreciate any feedback and assistance,
