GC and SSN for dependent

hello all:

I recently got the GC for me and my wife.
She had a Tax Id number until now and I guess she needs to have a SSN.

how/where can she apply for a SSN ? I am sure the Tax Id will not be valid anymore.

Appreciate any advice, links.

SSN on tax return

Once you use the new SSN on the next years tax returns and it goes into the IRS' system, then the ITIN automatically gets rescinded.

However, as mentioned by IMMIHELP, writing a letter to IRS is definitely better and you should keep a copy of the same with postage records.
