  • I 551 stamped for short period

Please help me understand I 551 stamp on my Passport. Whole process of GC seems like “Rocket Science”, I am confused with “Valid until Feb15, 2008” entry in the stamped I-551. I got this stamped on Dec 3, 2007, I thought I 551 remains valid for a year at minimum. Here is my confusion—what if, I don’t get my Plastic GC by Feb15 2008 (We are coming back on Feb13th ), do we need to immediately go to USCIS and get new stamp or we simply have to wait for our physical GC. Will I be legally eligible to work.

    Please help.

    Thanks.

    Similar experience

    Hi,
I got my stamp back in june 07 and it was valid only until sept 07. When it expired they told me to apply for EAD, which I did and got it in 40 days. So, I would apply electronically for EAD renewal if I were you.
    Good luck!

PS: just make sure you return to the US before your stamp expires, or you might have big problems.

Thanks, but not sure how EAD is relevant in this case. I thought you did not require anything after your GC has gone to production.
      Thanks.
