I'm so glad I found this website. I have been going crazy trying to get the right information for my particular situation. Nobody from any overseas or US office ever told me about this returning resident visa.
My husband and 2 kids are US-citizen, I am a holder of a permanent resident card. Due to my husband's job we moved to Germany (my home country) in 2003 and have been back to visit family every year since. I was issued a 2 year re-entry permit and it expired in 2007. We know we will be moving back someday, all depending on my husband's job / US economy. It might be 2 years, 5 years or 10 years, when kids start college. I always assumed I have to abandon my green card, living out of the US for too long now (even though I'm back for a visit every year).
Will I be able to get a returning resident visa and how long will it be good for?
If I have to give up my PRC, will I be able to apply (and obtain) again when we will move back in years from now?
Any help is highly appreciated.
