Re-entry Permit ?

Hi
My Mom is travelin abraod and her GC is expiring on May 08. She just got the re-entry permit ( Travel Doc) which is valid till 2010. Does anyone knows if she can still stay abroad and come next year and renew her Green card ?
Please help me....

She needs to renew her GC. The re-entry permit allows entry ALONG with a VALID GC.
