  • Surrendering Green Card

I have a green card but live in India and have to travel to US to renew it every year. Some one told me that there is a procedure whereby I can conditionally surrender this green card to have it kept in suspended animation so to speak for a period of some years until I can permanently move to US. Is this a fact? From where can I get the guidance and what are the procedures. Can some one please help?

There is no such thing AFAIK. Also, what you are doing as a practice instead of staying in the US will have negative impact during naturalization for you as a GC holder is meant to stay here in US.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

Traveling to US once a year does not renew your green card. When it is discovered tyhat you have been living, working and making India your home for the last few years, it will be revoked. This may be done at any time.

You are guilty of immigration fraud. Do the legal thing and move to US to live immediately or give up the green card!

Have you been paying US taxes?
Have you maintained a residency in the USA?

Your GC will most likely be revoked.
