Lost Green Card in the mail and need to travel

Hi,

I received my green card in May and I bought tickets to go overseas for August. Right after I purchased my tickets, I found an error on my green card (they reversed some digits in my A number). I called their hotline and they told me to bring my original green card and my passport to get a stamp through infopass. When I was at the office, the immigration officer said I should submit the I-90 first and then bring back a receipt in order to get a stamp. I then sent out the I-90 with my original green card the same day with certified mail (that was 1 week ago). It appears that the post office lost my mail because I never got a delivery confirmation. Now I am thinking about e-filing my I-90 and claim it as a lost green card; and then make another infopass appointment and hopefully they will stamp my passport because I will have some sort of confirmation online after submitting the e-filing. Is this going to work? Any other suggestions? Thanks a lot!!!!!!!

Try to find your mail first. Speak with the post office.

Then you can try what you mentioned. Except you will have to pay the fee and they may not even fix the error.

Thank you very much for your reply!!! My mail *****ally appeared today (after 2 weeks) and the post office delivered it. I just need to wait for a receipt from them now so I can go to stamp my passport.

Receipt not received

I submitted my I-90 for an administrative error in green card a month ago. Am I supposed to get a USCIS receipt from them? I have already got my passport stamped. Is this all I need to travel and re-enter? Thank you in advance for your reply!

a stamp on your passport is good for travel and re-entering. (i-551 stamp that is).

Thank you very much for your reply!! I have one more question. Am I supposed to have a USCIS receipt after submitting my I-90 reason "d"? It has been over a month now and I haven't received anything. I am very worried that there may be internal error again when they process my replacement card. Let's say if they deny my I-90 application, does that mean I will lose my LPR status??

No. Your LPR status can only be revoked by an immigration judge or if you fail to comply with USCIS laws/regulations. An I-90 should not be denied, but either way you do not need (nor can you use) the receipt to travel.

The I-551 stamp is what you need in this case.
