retain green card

hello everyone

This is regarding my parents, they both got family sponsored green cards in May 2006, they visited USA, stayed for 3 months and applied for a waiver till Sep 2008. The deadline now is Sep 11, 2008 to enter the US.

They would like to postpone their travel by a few months, is it possible to apply for a waiver from outside the USA? they are currently in India.

There is no waiver. They are risking losing their GC.

Can my parents apply for a visitor visa to the USA, giving up their green cards? is there a problem if the green card gets invalid when they apply for a visitor visa?

A green card is for LIVING in the US. It was never meant as a substitute for a visitor visa. They either need to move PERMANENTLY to the US or give up GC.
