After My mother passed her Green card interview, they sent VISA documents by courier, There was a sealed yellow envelope which said "Do not open" and was suupose to be opened by the port authorities, at usa.
My mother did not pay attention to "do not open sign" on the envelope. Now When I mentioned this problem to embassey, they asked us to pay another courier fees and bank draft for Rs.19,200/-?
In addition to that, My mother's passport was also placed inside the yellow sealed envelope. So no matter what, she was needed to open that sealed envelope to take her passport out of the packet.
There is no problem paying for the courier fee to VFS but I don't understand why would I need to pay another bank draft for Rs.19,200/- ? Please suggest, if there is any work around to avoid paying this hefty fees? OR Please let me know the procedure on how can I appeal against this decision of paying additional Rs.19,200/- ? to the American Consulate General in Mumbai.
