Hello Guys,
I am posting today because I have been worried these last couple of months, Me and my ex wife got married in 2014 and I obtained a temporary green card after 1 year and 11 months being married in the US(October 2016). Everything was going fine between me and my wife until one day she suddenly decides to tell me that she doesn't love me anymore and cannot stay with me. Long story short after 3 years and something being married she packs her stuff and decides to go back to her parents house. I was abandoned and the renewal for my green card was coming soon , so I took the situation in my hands and filed for a divorce. Because we both live in NY I couldn't file for abandonment. I found a lawyer, applied for an extension- got approved on September 2018.
Around December I got the decree from the court that me and my Ex-wife were officially divorced. My concern right now is that my lawyer is not filing my divorce decree so I can see if USCIS will give me another interview to see if the marriage was bona fide or I am going to get denied. I have 5 years and a half in the US and still my status is unclear. I am a law abiding resident, been paying my taxes, almost ready to get my degree in accounting and still concerned If I'm gonna get denied my permanent green card or not. My lawyer is still telling me that USCIS doesn't work because of the government shutdown. Am I still going to be able to get my permanent residency or if anyone has ever been in the same situation how did they get the matter into their hands ?
I know that lawyers will just file the paperwork for you and whatever happens happens but is there anyway I can try to call and see where do I stand in legal terms.
Thank you again for taking the time and reading this thread.
