is a "re-entry permit" final document required?

I have a green card, was out of the US for two years. Before leaving I applied for and and got notice of approval for the "advance parole" (re-entry permit).

BUT the final document was never received.

I plan to return next week.

Is this likely to be a problem? I have a copy of the approval notice, and assume CBP will have the final status on their computer.
I did actually go through the whole damn process TWICE and each time the document never arrived, even though other notices DID arrive (by post).

I read about an I-824 "Application for Action on an Approved Application or Petition". Could that be used to ask them, yet again, to re-send the document?

Depending on the country you are traveling from, they will not let you aboard the plane without a valid document with expiration date.

He has a valid green card. He does not need a reentry permit to board the plane.

At this point it is probably too late to do anything since you plan to travel next week. Just board flight normally. When you get stateside show cbp your greencard and approval notice for your re-entry permit. They might send you to secondary inspection but you should be ok. Do NOT sign anything with reading and understanding it properly. Worse case scenario is they will take your green card and send you to court.
