Travelling to India

I got my green card recently. To retain green card some sites say that i cannot stay outside US for more than 3 months while few say 6 months. I am planning to stay in India for almost 5 months. Just wanted to know if there can be any problem while entering US after 5 months.

i guess..its 6 months...but check with USCIS customer service before leaving for India.check web site www.uscis.gov.
call their 1-800 number.i dont have it with me right now...take it from site

the six month period is only if you need to show 5 years of continual residence in us after your get your gc and thence to file for citizenship, else you can go to india for a year and return w/o any problems. still, best is to talk to bcis before your leave, if planning to be away for a year.
