Hi everyone,
I am not sure this is the best thread for my particular situation but here it is anyway:
I currently have conditional permanent resident status and my 2-year green card expires on November 29th. I am not planning on renewing the green card as I already have a ticket booked to leave the country after my last day at work, which is December 4th, 5 days after my current status is removed.
I looked into the I-751 form and instructions and I would like to not have to pay almost $700 because of those 5 days. What are my options/what do you recommend I do? I do not intend on coming back to the U.S. after I leave as I am only here because of my ex-wife. We are officially divorced and I just want to finish my work -- I am a teacher and my last day of classes is December 4th (as I mentioned before).
