If one has expired 2 years conditional green card and has I-797 Notice of Action that was reiceved in response to the petition to remove conditions on green card and was recently received, would it be safe to travel out of US for three weeks? Are there any problems to re-enter US?

Hi,

Answer: Yes you can travel with the help of I-751 receipt notice. Please make sure to have below mentioned documents while travel.
1. Valid passport
2. Expired conditional GC
3. Valid I-797 C notice ( Normally it will provide extension for 18 months)
Thanks

I just got back from a 2 weeks trip to Cancun, Mexico. I flew southwest to and fro.
Flying out, I only had to present my Nigerian passport, expired green card and 18month extension letter at the bag check kiosk to obtain my boarding pass. when I got to Mexico, I presented the same documents at customs. No issues at all.
Flying back to Chicago, I again, presented my Nigerian passport, expired green card and 18month extension letter at the bag check kiosk to obtain my boarding pass. When I got to the US, I presented the same docs at customs and I got through like every other person. No second inspections. The customs officer just asked how long was the trip.
Hopefully, this will help alleviate some fears around traveling with expired greencard.

My husbands GC expired august 2020, we renewed February 2021. He received his extension letter a month later, and has yet to receive his GC. Getting through to immigration is horrible and they aren’t doing “non emergency” appointments due to COVID. We have something going on and have to fly to Mexico. At this point the extension letter has expired, does anyone know if crossing back will be an issue? Will we have to pay a fee to check the status?

He would probably be able to cross back to the US at a land border crossing, although he would probably be detained for a while while they verify his status. If it was an expired 10-year green card, technically the US allows airlines to fly him to the US, but I doubt any airlines will be willing to do it.
This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

If you're traveling with an expired conditional Green Card and an I-797 extension notice, I’d definitely check with an immigration attorney or CBP before leaving, just to be safe. I had a somewhat related issue when re-entering the U.S., though in my case, it wasn’t about an expired card—it was about bringing in winnings from a casino abroad.
I had won a decent amount while traveling and decided to withdraw the money in cash before flying back. I thought it would be straightforward since I was well below the $10,000 declaration limit, but at the border, the officers started asking questions about the source of the money. They saw my immigration status and wanted additional proof that the funds were legitimate, even though I had casino receipts.
I had actually found that casino while browsing reviews on sites like https://soceskecasino.com/casino-recenze/roby-casino/. The review provided contact details for the casino, so I reached out to them, thinking they might be able to clarify whether bringing winnings into the U.S. would cause any legal issues. Turns out, they don’t provide any guidance on the legalities of transporting gambling winnings across borders, so I was left figuring things out on my own.
In the end, the situation at the border took way longer than expected, and I was worried it might escalate further. From that experience, I’d say that in cases like this—whether it's about expired documentation or carrying casino winnings—it’s always better to consult an immigration attorney beforehand to avoid unnecessary stress at re-entry.
Are you planning to carry any significant amounts of cash or move funds between accounts while traveling? If so, you might want to check how that could impact your re-entry as well.

I recently found great option - https://pari-mobile.com/ . It is one of the best online casinos that supports minimum deposits, and the process of replenishing the account is very convenient. You can use popular methods such as UPI, Paytm, or e-wallets. Parimatch also has mobile app that allows you to place bets and play casino games directly from your phone. I use it for sports betting, especially cricket, but there are also cool games like slots and roulette. Regarding minimum deposit - you can start with a small amount, so it is suitable for beginners.
