I do not think it is common but it is OK they sent you two 24 months extension letter. I think you received your original one on 9/8 which was very close to 9/4/2021 (the date USCIS announced 24 months extension- see below). The system may have automatically sent you the second one not realizing your first one was already for 24 months.

Starting Sept. 4, 2021, USCIS is extending the time that receipt notices can be used to show evidence of status from 18 months to 24 months for petitioners who properly file Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, or Form I-829, Petition by Investor to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status.

same here! I got my original 18 month extension at the end of April 2021, and got the 24 month extension a few days ago. Got really excited when I saw I got a letter from USCIS, but then I got very disappointed after seeing it's just an extension.....

I guess they sent everyone the 24-months extension even to those who received one already just to make sure we are aware that it has been extended to 24 months.

The question now is which one do we show to the airlines and airports when we travel - the first letter we received or the 2nd one? Both receipts for my 751 have the 24 months extension.

use the second one with 24 months extension. both are same but the one you received recently with 24 months is what you should be using

BOTH of the letters I received have the 24 months extension.

My question was which of the two letters with 24 months extensions should I use.
