How hard is it to win in immigration court?

I’m trying to get back into the country after being stuck abroad for 1 year and a half due to Covid and medical reasons. If CBP refuses to let me in to the country, I’m trying to decide if I should abandon my GC on the spot or go to IJ. But I’ve heard it’s very difficult to win in court. Can someone please tell me how hard it is to win in court? Is it necessary to hire a lawyer, and even if you did, are you still likely to lose?
