I’m a conditional permanent resident & got summoned for Jury duty. What should I do?

So I have the conditional green card, yet I got summoned for jury duty. I got the invite in mail today.

Do I have to go? Isn’t jury duty only for US citizens?

What should I do?

You are not eligible, but you still have to respond. Usually the document will tell you a way to submit a response online or by mail for an exemption or postponement. You are exempt because you do not qualify. If you can't find a way to do it, you can go to the court to request the exemption. But don't ignore it. And don't participate in jury selection, because you are not eligible (but you can go to court on the day you are supposed to show up, and instead of going into the jury selection, go to the office that handles jury exemptions to request the exemption).

This actually happened to me a couple of weeks ago and my Oath Ceremony for citizenship is this Monday. Oh the irony!!

You are correct you can not serve on a jury if you are not a US Citizen

I am not sure about your State but I'm based in Oklahoma. In my Jury Summons they had a website link address at the bottom of the letter to go to and respond. When I did that I had the option to ask for dismissal based on not being a US Citizen and uploaded a copy of my greencard as evidence. Within an hour I had a response approving my dismissal!! Hopefully something similar will be your case to. If not, hopefully they have a number or email to contact before the report date where you can ask for dismissal. If they don't you will have to report but at that point you ask for dismissal based on not being a US Citizen!!

Whatever you do do not serve on the actual Jury as this could have serious repercussions if you ever apply for Citizenship
