  • Travel & Employment with pending I-90

    Hello!
My GC was lost outside the US, so I filed I-90 to get a new one.
For now I don't have any ID authorizing me to get employed in the US and I don't seem to be eligible for filing a I-765 (Employment Authorization) as it works only with a pending I-485.
What am I to do here?
    Thank you all.

Do you have an unrestricted Social Security card? Do you have a state driver's license or non-driver ID? For the I-9, an unrestricted Social Security card (a List C document) and a state driver's license/ID (a List B document) is enough.

If not, another option is to make an appointment at a local USCIS office to get an I-551 stamp on your passport, which serves as a List A document.

Sadly, I have a restricted SSN, so it seems that a stamp option is the only I got.
For unknown reason, there's no options for scheduling an appointment or reaching a live person through USCIS website or any phone numbers listed there. I've tried literally everything except just coming to a local office and banging on their doors. I don't think it would help though...

You got your SS card before you got your green card and never updated it after you got your green card? You're starting a new job?

I got them both at the same time. My GC has IR6 status.
I was planning on starting a new job but now I'm kinda lost here without my GC. Can't contact USCIS and ask them for any document allowing me to work while my request for a new GC is pending.

IR6 means you did Adjustment of Status. Did you get your SS card on the basis of your EAD? or did you get your SS card on the basis of your permanent residency after your I-485 was approved? If the latter, then your SS card should be unrestricted.

I am not sure how to contact USCIS but I believe there is still a way to make appointments.
