Green card, Overstay abroad

Hai

I came to India in Jan 2009 and my GreenCard was issued to me in June 2009.But,I have not gone back till this date.I wont be going for another one year.
DO US immigration has the date of departure record of every passenger leaving US?
Can't I go back to US without Re-entry permit or Returning Resident Visa?

Any help would be highly appreciated.
