  • USCIS has abandoned me. I-751 case pending for almost 4 years

Is anyone else experiencing these outrageous wait times? My I-751 has been received August 8, 2019. Biometrics appointment in March 2020 was canceled due to Covid, shortly after which I received a letter saying that they can use old biometrics and don't need to re-schedule the appointment. Needless to say, they kept the $85 dollars for the new biometrics that they did not need and were not taken. Then radio silence... The 18 month extension letter ran out and I got an I-551 stamp in my German passport for traveling abroad and to show my eligibility to employers. A year after that I got yet another stamp. Still no word from USCIS.
Then in October last year the case suddenly updated to "biometrics applied" - 2.5 years after they first wrote that they would apply the biometrics. No update since then, 8 months later...

I have made half a dozen of inquiries since last year and every time they are just responding with:

"Thank you very much for your inquiry regarding the status of your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence. Your case is currently pending. USCIS will make every effort to process your case in the order in which we have received it. Please continue to check the status of your case online for any updates. We hope this information is helpful to you and apologize for any inconvenience."

Should I talk to a lawyer? What are my options?
This is really annoying and completely unreasonable on their end.

Not an expert but I am assuming you would now be eligible to apply for Citizenship? Have you considered doing that!! Plenty of people on this forum have done it previously and it always seems to kickstart their previous application and they often get approved for both at the same time. You don't need to wait for your removals to be completed before applying for citizenship!

Other things I have seen people do here is to submit a FOIA (i think it was this) where they ask for all their documents related to their case and this seemed to have nudged their application.

I have also seen other people reach out to their State Senator/Congressman/Ombudsmen to have a look into their case as it has taken so long and that also seemed to have worked!

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for the feedback! I will look into the FOIA request.

I hadn't intended to apply for citizenship but yes I am eligible. Will think about it for a bit more.
