Re Entry permit

I have applied my re-entry permit in april 2004, there has been no response yet and I m not in US now.How long is the processing time and do they notify you if they reject the application?
Any help will be appreciated.

The current processing time for reentry permits is 1 to 1 1/2 years.
You will get an approval or denial notice.

Thanks for the reply JoeF. But what if I dont get any approval or denial in 1 year time? Do I then go back n apply again?

If you don't have an approval within 1 year, you should go back to the US.
The application continues, so no new application is required.

re-entry permit

@#%$'t fair that CIS is taking more than a year to process the case for which one has paid the fee and that person left US with an intention to stay outside of USA for more than a year.

It should rather be CIS's responsibilty to decide one way or the other within a year so that the applicant's I-131 has been denied and that he/she can atleast come back if it is still within a year.
