    It probably got lost.
File an I-90 with your local CIS office for a replacement card.

How long does it take to get the replacement card after filing I-90?

        Re: replacement card

Unpredictable. Somewhere from a couple of weeks to a year.
You can get another I-551 stamp in your passport when filing the I-90.

          How long??

Yes, I think I will have to do that. Get my passport stamped while filing I-90. I am sick of waiting like this. INS keeps giving me different answers everytime I talk to them. Hope I get my GC soon.

              Re: Stay in India

You have to live in the US when you have a GC. It is called "Permanent" Residence for a reason.
Any stay abroad has to be temporary in nature.

You can be temporary abroad for up to a year.
You have to have a valid GC (or I-551 stamp) to reenter.
With absences over 180 days, you are applying for admission when you return, so all the grounds of inadmissibility that were listed on the I-485 apply (communicable disease, public charge, etc.)

                    Stay Abroad

Ok, I guess I can stay out of USA(abroad) for a year. I heard it was for 6 mths. Are u sure it is 1 yr? And what do I do if I have to stay more than one year?

                        1 year or 6 mths

I went through the link provided by you and I guess I can stay abroad for a yr. I have filed for I-90, and they have also renewed my I-551 stamp which was expiring. They gave it for 1 yr and said I can stay out of US just a day before the card expires. But they also said the rules may have changed and it may be 6 mths now. So what do u think? Does anyone know anything about it?

                          GC mailing status

How did you find out that your GC have been mailed.
Is there any way to know the status of the plastic being mailed or not?

                          Thanks
