My mother appeared at US Consulate, Mumbai on January 23, 2012 for renewal of her green card. She had to stay in India over 365 days due to recovery after her knee surgery. Following is the conversation between my mother and the interviewing officer.
The interviewing officer - "If you enter US before January 28, 2012 you do not need to pay for your green card renewal since you entered India on 28 January, 2011."
My mother - "I can't enter US before January 28, 2012 due to my ongoing medical treatment."
The interviewing officer- "Get you medical done and come again with a draft in the amount of Rs. 20520"
She had the certificates from medical professionals from whom she is receiving the treatment. However, none of the documents were checked by the interviewing officer on January 23, 2012. I am guessing since January 23rd was less than 365 days since she entered India, am I correct?
Now, my questions are -
(1) SInce she was not given any document by the interviewing officer other than the list of "Revised Fees" with Application for Returning Resident Visa and its cost circled; how can she go for her medical as asked by the interviewing officer?
(2) Did she miss anything during and/or after the interview on January 23, 2012?
Any suggestions/advice will be highly appreciated.
Thank you.
