Renewing I-551 stamp

Can I get my I-551 stamp renewed anywhere in the country? Or do I have to get the stamp where I did it originally?? Also, can the renewing of stamp be done in India?

You need to get it renewed in person at the local INS Office for the area of the US in which you live.

Also, can the renewing of stamp be done in India?

No. You must be in the US since there is no INS office with jurisdiction over India.

I got it originally done in Boston and right now I am living on the west coast. So can I do it on the West coast or do I have to go back to Boston and do it??

I found out, I can get my I-551 renewed at any local office, if my stamp is expiring. Anyways, thanks for all your help...

The "temporary evidence" is the passport stamp.

If the stamp expires, just go to your local CIS office and get a new one. As indicated in the link above, you should also check why the card hasn't arrived yet. It may be that it got lost somewhere in the system. You may have to file an I-90 to get a replacement one.

Even more amazing is that he got a correct answer...
They are known for frequently giving false and sometimes dangerous answers.
You should never trust what they say.
